Balázs Szalay is preparing for the tracking tour of the Everest Expedition on snowy lands. He was skiing on Friday and completed a 23 km long tour with 1000 meters of altitude difference on Saturday.
“With Ottó Németh, who was the team leader of our cross country rally team for years, we planned together that the Opel Dakar Team and its media team accompanies Dávid Klein and Szilárd Suhajda to the base camp of the Hungarian Everest Expedition” explained Balázs Szalay. “The two great mountain climbers are planning to climb to the top without an oxygen tank this time, to reach the Everest’s peak as the first Hungarians. As far as I am concerned, for me the highest altitude was 4727 meters, when we crossed the Argentin-Chile border at Paso de San Francisco on the South American Dakar. That time I did well in such height, in thin air, but this time, the base camp will be 500 meters higher. So I thought I insert extra trainings to my schedule.”
That certain extra training was for example this Froday’s ski tour, and the 23 kilometer long tour with 1000 meters altitude difference on Saturday. Szalay completed the 11,5 kilometers in 2 hours and 50 minutes uphill, while the same distance took 2 hours and 30 minutes downhill on the snowy land.
